October 1 President’s Message

The month of September was one of the most rewarding months I can remember for our club. Hot off the successful Duck Race on 8/31, we barreled through Outpour fundraising live music event on 9/13, raising $8200 for the Vermont Foodbank.  The Join or Die movie event on 9/19 and Community Volunteer Fair on 9/21 celebrated the deep spirit of community volunteerism and resulted in several new members and prospects. A Meet & Greet is being held by our membership team on Thursday 10/9 at Emily’s Restaurant (apps are on us!)  in the Village Square. Please encourage member prospects to attend!

This past month saw our good friend Mike Curtin continue on his long journey to recovery, and we continue to hold in our thoughts our dear friend, Mike Bridgewater,  aka “Toonz”.

On October 8  we’ll host our District Governor, Luc Pomerleau at the breakfast being held at the Village Meeting House - the connection with our greater district is important as we all work for our communities. In a recent Rotary International email this quote was included:

“Rotary is a worldwide network of more than 1.2 million people of action who tackle the most persistent problems in our communities while building professional and leadership skills through meaningful connections.”

Ponder on that for a minute, thinking about the things we do in our community and for each other. What a gift this organization is to our community, our world, and to each of us, individually. For me, those meaningful connections are personal interactions I have with our members - you.

On that note, I would like to invite you to ‘nominate’ a member you have seen exhibit the Service Above Self creed; someone who goes above and beyond; someone who inspires you and others in their word and deed. Talk to me or email me, telling me specifically why you are nominating them. Use lots of detail and juicy adjectives and I will write something to read at an upcoming meeting as we honor them together.  Thank you.
